I was gifted 7 chickens. 2 turned out to be Roos. My silkie rooster is cool- the other Cal is a chaos creator. I’m thinking he needs to go. His favorite hen, is an Easter Egger. She’s timid, tries to hide from him and I’m afraid he’s going to hurt her. Add to this when he’s after her my silkie rooster goes after him and then they are both on top of her. Currently he is in rooster jail and everyone seems happier. Thoughts??

I don't think the problem is Cal isn't a good rooster. I think the problem is five hens aren't enough for two roosters.

Two or three hens might be enough for one rooster - without other chickens in the same space or too close. Or it might not be. If they are mixed ages (or are all older chickens) who were raised in a well run, mixed age flock and are similar in the level of docility then it is more likely to work well.

I agree. They have lots of space. Free range in the evening. However the husband is not thrilled with more hens.

How old are they? Immature cockerels are often pure chaos creators. Immature pullets don't often help matters any. Two or more cockerels together generally don't help matters either. From what you describe it doesn't sound as bad as it could be or as bad as it may get if they are still pretty young. Typically they grow out of a lot of the bad behavior as they mature but it can be really rough waiting for them to grow. And some never do.

I don't know your goals with chickens or why you might want two males. My general suggestion is to keep as few males as you can and still meet your goals. I don't know if your perfect number of males is 0, 1 or 2. If it is two you may need to permanently separate them, either housing a boy by himself or having enough barriers so you can have two separate flocks.

Good luck!

My girlz are into Girl Power so getting a boy would be like feeding worms to hens. The poor chap just wouldn’t stand a chance 😂
