Characteristics from crossing

I thought I remembered reading that if you cross 2 different breeds that you get the colors from the rooster and the physical characteristics ( size, shape etc) from the hen or viceversa. Can someone refresh my memory? I couldn't find the post that explains it.

No, that doesn't always work. For sexlinked hybrids, its the male is usually lighter than the females, which is opposite if parent stock
