Yep! I'm leaving 4 at home. 2 Black Cochin Bantam hens and 2 Blue Cochin Bantam pullets. That's quite a few.
Why're you replacing the cockerel due to inbreeding?
Inbreeding isn't really an issue with chickens.Yep! I'm leaving 4 at home. 2 Black Cochin Bantam hens and 2 Blue Cochin Bantam pullets.
Well, I plan on making a black, blue, splash breeding pen. The blues pullets are his sisters and cousins, one of the splash hens is his mother the other is his aunt on Moms side, the black hen is his aunt on Dads side.
Breeding groups went like this:
Little Big Shot - Cockerel - black × Sky - hen - black; Plum - hen - black; and Bubblegum - hen - black = Soldier - Cockerel - black; Boots - pullet - black; Sweet Pea - pullet - black
Then I gave Soldier to a friend and she got 2 splashes from someone else to put with him.
Soldier - Rooster - black × Willow - Hen - Splash; Goose - hen - Splash = Hope - Cockerel - blue; Dani - pullet - blue; Stone - pullet - blue; Squirrel - pullet - blue
In the breeding pen is Sweet Pea, Willow, Goose, Hope, Dani, Stone, and Squirrel. Sweet Pea is related to Dani, Stone, Squirrel, and Hope because theur father is her brother. Willow and Goose could be related to Dani, Stone, Squirrel, and Hope because one of them is their mother. Dani, Stone, Squirrel, and Hope are related to eceryone is some form or fashion. None if the hens will breed with each other (duh) but the roo will, and he is related to all of them. So the easiest thing to do is to get a new roo. I hope that made a little bit of sense!
Thats really interesting! So it wouldnt hurt to hatch a few chicks each year or get chicks from a new line to add (if they are better quality) but dont worry about changing the line unless I am notcing problems.Inbreeding isn't really an issue with chickens.

Yeah. Its just that they have been bred to each other multiple times. They are pretty far apart though. I'll just hatch a fee of my eggs each year to either add to my flock or sell. I think I may also get some Blues from Ideal.Nope, it wouldn't hurt.
I've bred Dino, & his Sister without issues.View attachment 3247560their son Goober(RIP)View attachment 3247576
