Chickadoodles, yeah football did it....LOL
OMG, wire is so freakin expensive- your chicken pen looks HUGE!! We have overhead preds too, but I used 2x3 wire that I found laying around for the top, and the hardware cloth around the bottom cuz of the raccoons. They have been ok for the last week to 10 days with no cover at all except for shade, so I think it will be ok. Looks great, if we were closer, I would come help you run that wire....

Yes the wire is very expensive. But we felt we needed it to protect our investment. We won't have to worry about critters on the ground because our dogs won't let any on our property or they will get them it they do make the mistake of showing up.
As for shade we used a old rubberized tarp up by the coop and then I put up a sheet on the side to keep the sun off them better! The pen is under some oak trees but it only gives them shade till abt. 1 pm.
Yea if we lived closer we could help each other!
We got the rest of the wire over the hen's run. Now I still have to weave the wire together so that nothing can get in to get them! Rooster Run is next! But in the mean time they act like they are loving it they are running and flying and going crazy!
you really missed a lot- i have a pool pump I have been pumping that thing out with.....sheesh
Door? you expect me to put a door in that thing? WHAT is wrong with you, Tony, really?
How's this for ya?
Hey It took me a few days to get it all together, but it is good, right? Before the door went in, I had cut the wire where the door was going to go, Not across the bottom.....just down the side, and was holding it closed with a couple carabiners and hay bale string- 2 days like that, and I have the scars to prove I went in there regularly
AND.....I am sure you have noticed the bathtub sitting there, behind the WHAT (door, yeah, it is a door)? THAT is Mr and Mrs Duck's new pond. Reason is that it is plumbable, easily. That is the chore for the old guy today.....he is off getting pipe and a cleanout...........YES, there is a place to drain it to!!!!!!! The old guy is a plumber, BTW......OH< OH, not building a duck house either- I did go ahead and use one of the black nursery pots- it is in the back corner in the top pic!! They love it, doesn't matter if it gets wet, and easy.....just EASY!! Don't forget, I still have 2-3 coops I must build.....The ducks had to be first, the tent in the house was just too much!!!!
Tony, my friend, I am disappointed......you did not comment on the idea of a thatched roof-
Funny NOTE: this is my redneck bathtub that I used on the back porch of the other place, don't know how many of you remember that conversation.......there was no tub over there, just the shower. I have a huge tub here, in my bathroom, but no shower, sooooooo I guess my nights of taking baths under the stars are OVER!!!!!
May sound crazy, but it is a lot of fun, and very peaceful!!! Remember now.......I live in the country, I am not an exhibitionist!!
I am sorry you got it so bad! Looks like it grabbed you and would not let go!
I love your door!
I may be using tarps on the rest of my pens over parts of them for shade!
