Hi all! After my chickens moulted many just kept loosing feathers. I don't see mites but I suspect them.

I'm on an extremely tight budget so cant afford commercial sprays right now.

I found a recipe online for garlic spray. It has some oil and essential oils and cinnamon in it but it is basically garlic water.

I need to not only spray under wings and vents (20 birds) and spay the coop and probably squirt in the drinking water and mist their feed troughs.
That said, I want to avoid the oils and cinnamon and add some ACV to it.
I've sent husband out to get me a 2 gallon pump garden sprayer.

I'm over 60 and bad back so chasing down each hen is going to kill me but the sprayer method with husbands help might be possible.

Should i add anything else or just keep it garlic & ACV so i can use it on everything, birds and all.

Won't garlic burn the birds bare skin? I know when i cut alot of garlic it burns my hands somewhat.
Thanks for any input.

A small 8 ounce bottle of Martins or Gordons permethrin 10 concentrate that is mixed with water to make many gallons of spray for a spray bottle or garden sprayer, is about 8 dollars. Instructions for mixing are inside the label. Since mites are very hard ro treat, and the chickens will need treating every 7 days a few times, plus the coop will need spraying, I would try to get something that is proven to work. All bedding ahould be removed and burned or taken far a way. Roosts, nests, and the coop should be treated once a month.

Thank you, i will try that and maybe just use the garlic spray around the area they are in.
