I discovered a system for watering my chickens while in their tractor that borders on free. The only expense was one water nipple and three pieces of 1 1/2 inch PVC. I used an elbow and an end cap. A short piece of 1 1/2 inch pipe fits EXACTLY into the large opening of a Kirkland Signature soap container. I believe other brands use the same container but have not tried them. I used NO cement around the joint! The fit was so tight I decided to try it without cement and it works just fine. You may need to drill a hole in the small cap to avoid pulling a vacuum as water is consumed. I also filled the container with a strong bleach solution and let it soak for a day to remove the remaining soap smell. I drank from the container and can detect no hint of soap.
I have mine sitting on a shelf I added to the nest box but I'm sure it could be mounted in any number of other ways.
