The bubbles float around like a detached air cell

Yup, that's what I had, some kinda came back together after a couple days of incubation.
One started developing, but quit at about day 5-6.
What breed?
Mine were Cream Legbars.

Yep. Same with mine. What did you do?
If you remember a couple months back I posted about possible egg drop syndrome but everyone said it probably wasn’t it. I had a hen that laid very rough, terrible quality eggs and within hours of laying a semi normal egg she‘d lay a shell-less egg. She also always had a messy bum and diarrhea. Now that I think about it, I have 2 of her sisters in the pen that this bubbly air cell egg is coming from. It is a possibility there is a genetic factor... After I send one of my cocks to freezer camp (he’s taking up my single pen) I may pen them up separately and see what they are laying. Or have you done the “food coloring in the vent“ method to see who is laying what? Might look at that option too.

What did you do?

Nothing.
I don't hatch much anymore, just a few replacement layers each year.
