It is soooo pretty... Son found it fluttering around on the driveway so had him get it on a stick and set it in a bush. Has about a 4 1/2 inch wingspan...

ETA: I looked it up and it is an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail

Very pretty.
It's my belief that butterflies that fly right up to you bring messages from heaven.

I love Butterflys. I released them at my wedding.

My wife, Anne, a butterfly nut says that you're right about its being an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail. Also, it's a male; you can tell by the blue dots; a female has a whole row of blue dots. Their host plants are wild black cherries and tulip trees (just in case you want to have around) because that's where they lay their eggs, and the caterpillars feed on those tree's leaves.

Oh how cool!!! Thanks for that info... I found it by googling "Butterflies of Kentucky". I know it isn't a wild black cherry bush but I do have cherry shrubs in the front garden do you think that is where it hatched(right wording?). Closest thing I have to a tulip tree is our MAgnolia so I don't think that counts.
