This little Leghorn has the biggest comb by far of any of my chicks, including 2 other Leghorns. So, naturally, I'm wondering if my "Leggy" is actually a roo. I've had her 3 weeks today, so she's maybe 3.5 weeks old I guess.

I think this bird answered the question for us today. We were both in the garage, I was near the pen, but not where I could see the birds, my wife wasn't close but could see in the pen when suddenly that was this awful noise, sort of like when a wood screw is getting tight and "squeels", sort of a "err-err-err" noise. I asked her what that noise was and she said I think it's from the leghorn with the big comb! I looked in the pen just in time to see him stretch his neck and have another try at making a respectable crowing noise. He failed... about four more times.
Now to decide if he's going to be dinner in a few weeks, or if we'll see about finding him a home where he's wanted.

My little 4 week old bantam Cochin tried crowing a few days ago. It really does sound hilarious :lau

Yeah, it had me chuckling pretty hard. My wife, not so much... somehow she thought we'd go 12 for 12 females.

So if they still sound like they did when they were babies at 9 weeks, still a chance of being a hen?
