So I have a partridge Cochin named Big Momma. Typical of the breed she has a very fuzzy bum. Occasionally she gets poop caked in her bum feathers - no one else has this problem, only Big Momma. And what loves poop? Flies. And from flies come maggots. Gross. I had noticed her kind of pecking at her rear area and found quite a mess back there. Nothing a warm wash and alu-spray couldn't fix. Now her bum is good as new. But it was still really gross. So here is your summer reminder to check those bums! Remove any caked on feces. Cause maggots on your bum are no laughing matter.
