Checked vent and tons of fluid came out! Help!

Before you dispatch her, maybe you could send Speckledhen a PM and ask her advice to MAKE SURE this is what you are dealing with.
She is hands down the best person to ask about this-bless her heart.

This is why God DHs for us I say. i know that one day I will have to do it. But so far I have gotten away without having to do it. It is only a matter of time though.

I'm new on here so how do I do a PM? I see if someone has posted on my thread but how do I send her one since she hasn't?

I sure do hope your girl rallies from this.

Thanks for all the advice. Sad to say, she had passed this morning when I went to check on her. The rest of the girls are wandering around acting like they are confused about what happened. Hope I never have to deal with this again. Does anyone know if this is something that could spread in the flock or is this just a random thing?

If it's internal laying, it isn't contagious. Apparently high production egg birds are more prone to this.
Sorry you lost her.

So after I posted that, I got my human girls occupied so they wouldn't see what had happened (just lost two kitties in less than a month and don't need any more death), went out to get her body, and she was sitting up looking around. I would have sworn she was dead, had her legs stretched out, head twisted, but she is just sitting around. I brought her some water and treats and she pecked at them. Her eyes and face look totally fine, and she is sitting like she is laying an egg, but she can't move her legs.

I'm trying to make her comfy until my husband gets here. I know it may be irresponsible of me, but I just can't kill her. She doesn't appear to be suffering. She just is sitting looking around at the other girls.
Thanks for the info on spreading. She is a leghorn and pretty much has laid every day since we got her back in January. Poor girl.
