Ok I'm new to having hens (I've rescued 2 ex-batterys) and I'm loving every second! I'm trying to get the basics down but I was wondering what makes a hen go broody? :)

From what I've read, it's a biological cause. Certain breeds are more prone to broodiness than others and you can't "make" one broody that isn't inclined to.

I'm hoping someone else comes along that can better explain because that's about all I've learned about it so far.

Ahh, thanks! It's all very interesting! I've had ppl saying they would lend me a 'broody' hen if I needed one but I'm not ready yet! Going to concentrate on getting my two girls as healthy as possible and learning all about hen stuff!! :)
