Alright, so my journey is about to begin as a mother to chicks. My husband and I have been talking about getting chickens and having fresh eggs for a very long time now and our thoughts are coming to fruition. This weekend we will have two Ameraucana's and on the 15th we will be adding a Cockoo Maran and a chick of my son's choice to our family. A total of four little girls... What fun! I plan to break ground on the coop next weekend and am VERY excited. I have been looking at all the great coops here on BYC and have sketched out our coop (with great success I might add). Now I have to say; this all started with my husband having an idea to put some chicks in our son's Easter basket this year and now it has grown into a family project

I think I might be getting a little more carried away with it then my husband expected. Hunter, our son, is 3 1/2 y.o. and so excited. He and I went to the feed store the other day to pick up the materials we would need for the chicks bed/home while were building the coop and he can't get enough of them and it is all he can talk about at home and at school. I can't wait to post the arrival of our girls and progress on the coop!

from Kansas!!

Are you starting out with young chicks? Because I'm pretty sure they have to be a few weeks old in order to tell for sure which gender they are. You may end up with unwanted cockerals....
