Cheese Bread and a Chicken Coop - updated with pics

That's my boy Thistle. He's a Jack Russell Terrier.

Here he is - tired of helping. He's in the blueberry bush garden!

And here is says, "Was that a chipmunk that I saw?"

He's going to have a bit of a hard time once the chickens arrive....

Yeah, I was just going to say...Jack Russells are notorious chicken killers so you better make sure he can't get at them - that includes making it impossible for him to dig under your run.

Gold laced wyandottes are beautiful but not the best egg layers in my experience. If you go to www.mypetchicken.com you can do the little survey and see what suits your needs.

Whatever you do, have fun!!! The coop looks great and I'm envious.

I have about 45 pet birds in the house - finches, a canary and two parakeets. Thankfully Thistle knows that these birdies are my friends and doesn't bother them as long as they do not escape the cages. If they do get out we have a bit of a circus.

He won't be unsupervised in the back yard and he's going to get to know the chickens when they are in the brooder and as they grow.

I still will NEVER trust that he will leave them alone. He's definately a hunter - as he was bred to be.

I'm putting some predator wire around the bottom of the entire coop system - we have bad raccoons around here - and the chickens will have an additional sheltered run.

Thanks for the advice on the Wyandottes. I had read that they weren't the top choice for layers. I'm counting on some good advice from folks like you here and also from the breeder when I go up to pick up the chicks.
