Cheryl's Hen House...

Tell mom she will know her motherly duties are over when the chicks are able to fly to the top of the box.

Sounds like a plan. We're picking up her pair of 2 1/2 week old Blue Laced Red Wyandottes on Saturday morning.

How come you're not getting her day olds?

I think she was a little taken aback with how tiny they are. Her eyesight is not great. She's more comfortable with a little bigger babies. The other breeds that we wanted were Wellsummers or Blue Laced Red Wyandottes. They have no Wellsummer chicks or juveniles at all and the BLRW's are from 2 - 5 weeks old so no option for day olds anyway.

I'd imagine that most of you have figured out by now that I'm a little nuts. Sometimes it's the smallest of details that bug me the most. All of the windows on the house, shop and storage building have grids to simulate divided lights. The triple track storm windows that I put on the coop do not. I got some 1/2" white stripe tape from my stripe guy today and ta-da...

We have matchy, matchy.

Cheryl and I also managed to get the inside of the coop and all the material for the inside trim, roosts, poop board etc... primed. I'm taking off at noon tomorrow to get a head start on the weekend. Getting closer!!

I thought it would be fun to share a little vid of the morning routine. Amazing how God has preprogrammed these little ones. When the lights turn on, they turn on.

Progress pics from this afternoon/evening. Got the inside trim done, everything caulked and the second coat of primer on. Also got most of the outside caulked and spot primed. Painting the inside and hopefully the outside tomorrow after getting my Mom's 2 Wyandottes situated in brooder #2 at her house. Chickens have overtaken my life.

Start up is intense.....then you go thru building withdrawals....
....but don't worry, you'll find things in coop to tweak if you get bored just watching chicks grow....after you build the run ;-)

lol.... I have and ever growing list of things, landscaping, gardening, house maintenance, racing stuff etc... that I keep pushing to the side to get the coop done. And then there is the run...oh yes, the run. Next weekend we have committed to having the entire racing operation on display at a charity car show so I have a lot of things to clean and get ready for that next week. That's one reason that I'm in mega-thrash mode right now.
