Cheryl's Hen House...

Pics
Just realized what a dummy I am. When I left the house this morning I didn't' think about the automatic pop door opener being on and it's pouring down rain...from the direction that the door is on. Sheesh. Glad I waterproofed the floor. Probably going to have to bail it out when I get home.

Arrrghh! catastrophe testing.

Arrrghh! catastrophe testing.

Don't mind planned catastrophe testing. Very irritating when I do it accidentally. I am pretty confident that I have adequate waterproofing though. Guess we'll see in a couple of hours.

This is an amazing work of Chicken housery, and the shop is simply fantastic! I am just starting my fowl adventure, Only I opted for Ducks.

Your chicks are amazing and you have done an amazing job! I will follow this thread! I cant wait to hear about the floor sealer and see if it held up. All this hard work will pay off when you see your Chicks take off in the run for the first time!

Haha! I Know, Right!!??
Better wire in a rain detector ;-)

Or just be smart enough to not leave it open in the rain while I'm field testing. Won't be an issue once there's a covered run but now...sheesh...just like running the hose through the door.

One more night, one more project checked off the ridiculously long chicken coop project list. Tonight it was predator proofing the windows. I decided that I was not going to put the 1/2" HC on the outside but rather make HC screen doors for the inside. They will also serve to keep the ladies off the window sills.

Construction is the same as the HC screen human door. 2 - 3/4" pine frames built with pocket screws with HC in between. I ripped the frame members down to 1 3/4" wide. Started with making the 6 frames. Pocket screws are such an awesome construction method. Super fast and super strong.

The frame/HC/frame sandwich is held together with a series of countersunk deck screws. The screws also secure the HC.

Thank you!! I'm really enjoying the build even though I am ready to be done with it.
