Our ten year old peacock started losing his train feathers earlier this spring. The ones he was dropping looked normal at first, but obviously, he shouldn't be dropping them now. He acts normal, is eating and displaying and flirting with ou hen; but is not as active as he normally would be. In the past few days his feathers have started turning ratty and chewed looking. I'm thinking probably mites or lice? I've never seen this before in our birds but I think I remember reading about similar symptoms. We have two dust baths available for our flock, both deep and wide enough for the peafowl, and they free range, so they can dustbathe outside too, but I have never seen him dustbathing. I also have not seen him showing any signs of discomfort. What can I do for him? He is not easy to catch/ handle. This is not the best picture...

Feather mites maybe? That's just a wild guess though
That's what I thought too...but he's never had anything like this before, and we've had him since he was a yearling. What would I do then? Ivermec? I thought I could try misting him with it, although I doubt if I'm gonna be able to do a great job getting next to the skin, because he won't stand for it. I also have permethrin.

I think to treat feather mites you might have to use ivermectin topically or orally three times every ten days.

Three times a day you mean? Would I just mist him with it? Also, he's the only peacock we have now, but I haven't noticed those symptoms at all on the two peahens, or on the chickens.

Ivermec won't hurt to use, but I would also check the roost space, or any other place he hangs out a lot. I had a roo break most of his tail feathers halfway off just to fit into his new favorite sunning spot.
