Chic Chick 'Bator *UPDATED*

Miss Prissy is correct if you use the thermostat that she calls for, you should not have a problem. I am sorry I have stirred this up. I would diagram the concept of a relay if I knew as much about loading that sort of thing on to a computer as I do about how relays work but I don't. Knowing about the concept could be useful for a number of things in your home. I am going down to Lowes today and pick up the thermostat that Miss Prissy is using and see if it list any sort of duty cycle or amp range etc. But the bottom line is I thought she was using a different thermosat because I assumed instead of reading clearly. Then I made the second post this morning to clarify what I was talking about concerning relays and muddied the waters further so now I will go to my corner and shut up.

It happens to the best of us, Mike. No harm no foul.

Likewise... and we're lucky to have you keeping an eye on us... if we HAD been using the wrong thermostat, I'd want to know!

How important is using the water wiggler, and what kind of thermometer do you use with it? My husband and i started trying to make the bator and we are having a hard time locating a wiggler...thanks

You don't have to have one. You can do the same with 2 ziplock bags of warm water. what the wiggler is used for is to mimic the temps in the eggs and give an idea of the internal temp that should be 99.5.

I couldn't find one of those cool thermometers with the little sensors... so I just stuck a regular kids digital thermometer in it and it works just fine. I just have to push the button to get the temp is all..... but, I have to reach in to turn the eggs, so it's fine.

I took a sandwich baggie, filled it half-full of warm water, closed it, put it inside another baggie, sealed it, folded it and taped it in half and put it in a single serving yogurt container. Stuck the probe in there, and away we go!

Works just like a water wiggler.
