My name is Jessica. My family and I live in Chicago and just got our first chickens! We have four chickens that are currently six weeks old: two barred rocks, one light brahma, and one silver laced wyandotte. We're excited for them to start laying in the Spring and enjoy their fun personalities. All of our neighbors are watching our journey with excitement too. We are currently building our coop and will be moving them outdoors in the next two weeks. Chickens are part of our urban agriculture journey. We have rain barrels and compost, and we have 230+ square feet of raised garden beds. Thanks to everyone in this community for sharing; these forums and the Windy City Coop Tour have best the biggest sources of information and inspiration for our journey so far!

Hi and welcome to the flock!

Chickens are such a fun experience, and it's cool that your neighbor's are cheerleading y'all as you begin your journey. Your huge garden should provide plenty of fun treats for the gals and in turn they're going to make some of the best compost for you. Congrats on new beginnings!
