I have bought baby chicks from Ideal,no problem at all,last time they thru in extras never lost a bird due to shipping, but you will always find someone that has a bad experience..... Great Hatchery!

All hatcheries aim to do their best to deliver live chicks to your home. The shipping is out of the control of the hatcheries. Yes I have read some bad experiences, but I don't see it as the fault of the hatchery.
If you want successful deliveries, I suggest avoiding cold weather periods, as well as High Volume shipping periods. You chickens come much sooner/faster. The High volume shipping period may be somewhat harder to determine when it is occurring .
