I got weak and got 4 baby chicks at Tractor Supply on their first day of Chick Days. I already have enough but I digress….
All seem healthy and normal except one Black Sex Link. The first day, I noticed she wasn’t drinking like the others and would cheep loudly like she wanted something. I tried dipping her beak in electrolyte infused water multiple times but she wouldn’t even drink. Then I tried actually putting small drops in her mouth. She fought it. Then I tried Nutri Drench in her water and giving it to her that way. Tried raw egg yolk too. She would not drink herself for the first day I had her home. She finally tried drinking from the dish once and just gave up and starting cheeping loudly when she failed since I had put marbles in the dish that got in her way. She finally figured out the waterer after that incident and we cheered her on.
She’s now figuring out how to eat which is a relief. She watches the other chicks eat and instead of eating what’s in front of her though, she desperately wants to eat what and where they’re eating. When she’s not successful getting that food in her mouth or her flock mates leave her side, she cheeps loudly. They’re just at the food and water dish while she’s under the warm brooder plate but she gets so alarmed when they leave. She acts very helpless and I’m not sure what might be wrong with her. Any ideas?
