Of course I'm a newbie and of course I need help! I have a little blue silkie that is about a week old today. It has been making a lot of noise lately, the angry peep kind, very loud. We have also noticed that it is acting like it is drinking when it isn't anywhere near water. I have seen it drink and eat normally but we are concerned because the other silkie chick we have is doing fine. We have increased the temp and given them some electrolites. Any other tips?

I gave it some yogurt which it gobbled right up, refreshed the Sav-a-chick and it has perked up. Brooder temp is at 95, other chicks are fine. Seems like it's having a little trouble walking around but it is defiantly still thirsty and hungry. One eye wants to stay shut but it can open it. I am still hoping for a little advice if some one has gone through this before. Thank you!

Please won't someone on here help me? My poor little blue is loosing ground! Peeping is weaker, walking much more slowly, having trouble balancing. My husband cleared off it's vent, it hadn't pasted up completely but was partially covered. Stool runny. Still treating with electrolytes and yogurt. It walks around and soon starts to fall asleep only to wake itself which seems to distress it. Ate and drank normally this morning, seems much weaker now. Anything, any thing at all that would help, it is our most personable chick, very sweet and loving, I am willing to try anything, just please PLEASE some one help!

I am sorry no one has helped and I am not much help. I have never experienced some thing like that. Does it have a fully crop? If so, is it hard like a rock? Are the others picking on it? :/ I wish I was more help.

I am sorry you are having trouble with this little guy. I think you are doing all you can at this point. You might want to separate him out from the others and keep him at a warmer temp than the others. Keep any vitamins, electrolytes you have in the water. And keep him near the food and water. Dip his beak in the water every so often to make sure he is drinking. Offer up some hard boiled eggs instead of his chick feed, just to keep him eating something. (hard boiled egg is emergency food and if they can still eat, will readily eat it.)

Just keep an eye on him, keep him warm, by himself or maybe one mate, and keep the food and water nearby. Sounds like you are doing all you can at this point. So sorry about your baby.

Wow thank you guys! I will get him some hard boiled egg as soon as he wakes up, he is sleeping a lot but his two other brooder mates have been huddling around him, even when he is sleeping and they are awake, the little ameraucana that came from the same feed store has been watching over it, but neither of the other chicks pick on it or seem to be exhibiting the same symptoms. They are on a medicated feed, so I don't think it is something like cocci, but I am also very new to this. I will also check it's crop, but I am also worried about handling him too much, especilly since cleaning up his back side seemed to have tiered him out. Thank you so much!

Update. Not so good. Much much weaker. Ate a bunch this after noon of the egg it was offered, drank a lot of the water with vitamins and electrolytes but still getting worse. Crop is normal, no respiratory symptoms. Passed stool that was entirely water. I'm stumped and sad and exhausted. I feel silly getting so emotional over a chick but out of all eleven birds we have raised this season, this one is the sweetest. If any one can think of anything else it might be or that I might try let me know. I know that sometimes it's just mother natures way of keeping bad genes out of the gene pool but it is just hard to believe since not even two days ago she was running around like nothing. Thank you all so much for all of you help and support. I am so glad a wonderful community like this exists to help each other and to teach newbies like me how to work through crises. I will update condition in the morning if anyone is interested in knowing the out come.

How is the little guy this morning? Don't feel bad about getting attached to these little fuzzy birds. It happens to all of us. But sad as it is, not all chicks make it to adult hood. Just the way it is. They can be born with genetic issues, physical issues, had incubator issues, etc...So it is common to lose babies at that age. You have done all you can and if he doesn't make it, don't feel that it was your fault.

Keep us posted!

She is still with us this morning. Very very weak, I don't think that she is going to make it. I am going to hand feed and water her this morning and make sure that she has access it close before I leave for work. I don't think there is anything else we can do for this poor girl :( I can still hope but I'm also realistic. Thank you again!
