Our 8 week old chick was attacked after getting along fine with our 3 older hens for 3 days. She had no feathers left on her back and bunch of peck holes. She was a sad mess, but we cleaned her up and treated with antibiotic ointment. Shes in the house in a dog crate while she heals. Its been a week, she is eating, drinking, and really doing well. However one of her legs is not functioning properly. Shes limping aroud and using her wings for stability. No swelling, redness or anything else that looks off. She doesnt make any noise when you touch it so it doesnt appear to be causing her pain.

Any ideas on what could be going on here?

Can you tell if it is limping, or is she dragging the leg like it is paralyzed? Do her toes curl when you touch them? She may have a bad sprain or a break. Did she have a Mareks vaccine? I would place her on some poultry vitamins in her water, and confine her to a cage to rest the leg for a week or two. If you can determine if there is a break, splinting may help.

Shes definately trying to use that leg and putting some weight, shes just favoring it. She still uses it to scratch herself and such. So its not paralyzed, and yes her toes curl. To my knowledge she has not had the vaccine. I will get some vitamins and keep her in the dog crate, and see how it goes. Do you know if they carry them at Tractor Supply?

Thanks for the advice!
