So both babies did end up dying. Definitely a learning curve for me. I will do better next time and not intervene. Thank you everyone for the advice. Now I know better about what not to do. Rip to the little marans.

I’m sorry, it’s always hard when you try but don’t get the outcome you want. I guess Marans must be more difficult to hatch than the average egg.

Possibly but it’s ok I’ve learned now and better know how to handle the next time
