I woke up this morning to this sweet one. Doesn't look good. Looks like the yolk sac burst? Will she make it? Or should I put her out of her misery? This is our first time hatching chicks.

I think so. We have a mama who was sitting on the eggs. Two hatched under her. We went out to check on everyone and she was attacking the rest of the eggs that were hatching. She killed 2 chicks that were partially hatched (it was hard to see). So we quickly brought the rest inside to our incubator but it wasn't set up. We had to adjust settings as the eggs were in there. 5 have hatched without a problem. This one didn't do so well.

Was or is your hen in with the rest of the flock?

Hens can often turn jealous, violent, and fight with each other when their chicks begin to hatch. This is especially so if a hen tries to lay in or usurp the nest of a hen who is close to hatching.

So what appears to be a hen attacking or having attacked her own chicks is actually chicks that were killed by collateral damage of two hens fighting over the nest, the eggs, or the chicks in the nest.

Our hen is actually in a completely separate hen house. She can hear the other hens, but no one can even get close to her.

Leave that baby in the bator.
If you have room place it in a coffee cup inside the bator to prevent him from moving around too much.

I'm nervous to put the remaining chicks with her. She did a great job the last time she raised chicks. We didn't have a rooster at that time, so after she sat on eggs for about 2 weeks, we bought some chicks and put them under her at night. She took to them very well. But I'm nervous to introduce the 5 new babies to her since she already has 2 chicks with her (the 2 that hatched under her before she went nuts). Would you try it?

NO...not if she just went nuts.
