Our little silkie is on day 4, 2 days since receiving her in this state. I determined that it’s not splayed leg but a slipped tendon or joint injury since the leg was drawn up and to the side and the joint is swollen. Thanks BYC! I couldn’t feel the tendon in either leg, but I removed our hobble and wrapped the leg above the foot and joint.
I tried a chick chair that seemed too deep and the holes were too big since the chick kept getting out of the holes and standing. This one keeps it secure but it seems really high to the top of the box to me. She’s struggling now and then but resting in between. Here’s a pic of the leg taped with sports wrap, her first sling without her in it, and her now (2 pics). Feeding her a B complex and chick starter, egg yolk. She will not self-feed so I’m administering with a Q-tip.
I’m sad that she’s using so much energy fighting the sling but she was flailing badly with just the wrap. Any more advice for her?
