My chicks are now 6 weeks old and are spending their days free ranging around the backyard. (Today was the first day they all got the dust bath down). They eat all kinds of things, when I was out there with them, Penny (speckled sussex) couldn't chew down a root that she had found, so I pulled it back out. When I got home yesterday, she had a long piece of grass hanging out of her mouth. I watched her for a second and then decided to pull that one out too and it was really long! Could she potentially choke on these long pieces?? Do they need more supervision outside??

Thanks!

I have seen birds at the same age as yours struggle with longer blades of grass but the eventually get it down or another bird will come up and pull it out. I think they are fine...in the wild they wouldnt have us to pull grass out of their mouths. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
