chick crumb

Some people keep them on it forever. Some switch to a grower feed as they mature. Some then transition to a lower protein finisher. Some go straight to layer when they start getting eggs.
The best thing to do is read the feeding instructions on the bag. Each manufacturer has different lines of feeds and know at what ages to switch.
There are charts on the back of virtually every bag of feed sold today.

thank you for your response, we have crumb, growers and then layers in England. i couldn't remember what ages they changed over. been a few years since i hatched chickens.

I feed starter/grower 20% protein. There is no reason to change if you don't want to and it's easier if you have a mixed age flock. Just provide oyster shell and grit in separate containers.

You don't have to feed layer, you can keep on grower just add a separate dish of Oyster Shells when they show signs of laying. I purchase the small bag of Chick Starter, when that's finished I switch them to Flock Raiser, add a dish of Oyster Shells when their combs/wattles are RED and they start squatting. Always make sure the have grit.
