In the morning Im going to pick up 3 baby chicks.
I want 3 different colors, will they be different colors or will they change as their feathers come in?
Yes Im a newbie, sorry if thats a silly question. But I realy dont know.
I dont want to get all 3 the same I will never be able to tell them apart.
Thanks for the help. Darlene

Yes You can sort of tell .. Most places should label what kind they will be .. but yellow often turns white .. and many will have a reddish tint if they will be red .. mixed colors will be more than one color later too .. They look different right from the get go if they will be largely different as mature Chickens .. I mean some are very similar but you will be able to tell a Rhode Island Red will look much different than a Barred rock etc.. Make sure more importantly they are Sexed.. If your asking about colors let me Warn you Streight Run means you get whay you get could be boys could be girls .. hope this helps !

If you get different breeds, (ones with different patterns, combs etc.) then you will be able to tell them apart easily. However, if you are looking at getting the same breed, look for different patterns on the back and face for more variation in color when they are older. I don't know where you are buying them from, but Tractor supply only lets you get a minimum of 6. Also, great websites to look at the breeds as babies are cackle hatchery's website and www.mypetchicken.com have fun and happy chicken buying! - TeacupSilkie

Thank you so much! I already told them I dont want a rooster...
I only want to raise them as pets and just to get eggs.
Im watching some from afare. I just cant wait. I think they are coming from
the Ideal something. Its at a feed and seed. I talked to them about them last week.
I will post pics when I get back home.
Thanks again..

ok I went to chick day and got the 3 I wanted.
Buff Orpington (goldie)
RIR (red)
Americana (cookie)
So far goldie is the loudest,
and red is the most aggressive.
cookie has been trying to peck out goldies eyes.
But this is just the first day. They seem to be happy.
water and food on board, light in place.
and my lil dog has been stant watch all day.
