Chick Dead?

Today I went to look at my broody hen and saw one of her eggs crushed. It killed the chick inside and the are due tomorrow. She is really little and she is by herself in a pen. I just dont know what happen. Does anyone have an idea?

i just had a similar thing happen with my turkey hen.. what i was told was that most likely the hen accidentally stepped on the egg, broke it and sadly, killed the little one. i do NOT know if this is the same with chickens.

i did have one broody hen that hatched its last one.... and the chick was dead. i couldnt tell if she killed it of if it died. i'll be watching this post to see what the others say.

sorry about the loss - its very sad to find a little body like that, huh?

Well i was so happy to fined my first chick this spring then I saw what was wrong with it. It scared me a little bit thinking more chicks were like that but all the eggs I could hear their little chirps.
