Chick died in pip

Ok my wise ones. Help!!!

what’s going on here. These are the duds.

i only tooka couple photos as they were all the exact same.

I didn’t want to take out of membrane but you could see a chick in correct position but yolk sac not absorbed. Majority were like this.

I had 2 or 3 that looked like they quit even earlier then these guys.

I’m at a loss!!! I don’t know what I did!

I put 28 in.

One had a blood ring.

2 I accidentally put back in upside down (so dumb but they weren’t pointy and Iguess trying to be quick I was not careful enough)

3 pipped in the wrong spots and died
1 died zipping as it looked like it got suffocated.

10 hatched

so why have these not made it? Please be easy on me I do want to learn but I’m feeling guilty and very sensitive as my hatch rate was only 35% I feel like I failed.

Thanks so much! I am eager to learn where I went wrong!

The picture of the butt was not supposed to be there lol

I am glad it was there because it make me take a closer look. Is the shell blocking the vent (poop hole)? If it is, may I suggest that you very carefully moisten that area and get that shell off? If it is not blocking the vent, is it stuck to the umbilicus? If stuck to the umbilicus it needs to be removed too, but be very careful because you don't want to accidentally tear open the umbilicus.

I tried so hard! It is around umbilical. It’s on there with like gorilla glue!!! Do I soak this whole babies butt in a bath?!

Please don't feel bad! These things happen and it's not your fault! You followed all of the basic guidelines, but these often need to be altered based on what incubator you're using, where you keep the incubator, your altitude, even how porous the eggs are all impacts the level of humidity to adjust. :hugs :hugs :hugs

Well since the picture of the butt is there, I will say it looks like egg waste on both the chick in the previous post with the hernia as well as the chick with the shell stuck. Egg waste has a greenish tint to it and is the normal leftovers that you see in the egg after a chick hatches, when it dries it will be harder to get off. I would gently try to clean it with warm water and a q-tip, if it doesn't come away easily you can put some Vaseline on it and after a little while it will make it pliable again so you can wipe it off more easily.

It can be difficult to say what exactly went wrong in the hatch, there are so many factors. but since none of them got to the point of pipping internally I again am leaning toward too high of humidity in early incubation. What happens when an egg doesn't lose enough weight is that the chicks end up with a sticky substance around them that prevents them from turning properly in the egg so many of them never even pip.

I can't tell what position the chick in the first images is in but the last chick is still upsidedown which is why you're able to see the yolk sac by the air cell.

ok

here are my 3 weird butt chicks

I put more ointment on and they’re in the brooder now with the rest of them.

the one looks like maybe a tiny tiny tiny bit of yolk as it’s yellow?

the other is just egg shell glued on by goo but its like gorilla glued on

and the other is just maybe bloody?
Keep an eye on these two. Make sure the area stays clean and watch for other chicks pecking at them.
