hello, i had a chick ready to hatch, the shell had a good chip starting i heard him/her pecking inside well i came home check on the egg nothing so i gently picked it up the egg felt cold, which was odd the hen was still sitting on it. i picked it up felt and heard nothing well i did nothing last night well this morning check on it still nothing so i candled it nothing was moving so i chipped away at the shell and the chick was dead and dry in the shell, what would caused this.

, my hatch rate has been great for being really my first year at it, i only hatch 4 chicks total till this year ,and so far my rate after candling and determining the fertile eggs i would say about 97% so this is so sad so close them dying on me,

thanks ma hen

This might not be the case with your eggs, but in my first hatch the humidity was too high, and condensated in the air cell. My chicks drowned while internally pipping. I use the dry hatch method now, 38% humidy days 1-18 (and don't add water until 22%), then 65% on days 19-21. Good luck and try, try again.

my chicks are under hens that is why i am so puzzled

thank you for your input i will be trying incubation soon and will be taking all the info and notes from all of you
