Chick died....

This is my first time experiencing a chick dying. We received our chick order yesterday (hour drive away), and they all seemed good.
This morning I noticed one of my mottled OEG bantams had pasty butt going on, so I fixed him up. Then I noticed another one of my bantams with pasty butt, when I picked him up he was super weak and floppy. I washed his bum but it was all downhill from there and within 15 min he was dead. I’m not sure if this was from pasty butt or if our heat is wrong (thermometer says it’s fine but who knows), or if it was something else but now I’m super paranoid that others are going to start to die!

I had one chick last year that seemed very lethargic and died within the first night. I think some chicks are just too weak or have something wrong with them when you get them and there's nothing you can do if they're too far gone. I wouldn't be worried about the temperature if the rest of the chicks seem good (as long as they're not crowded under or away from the heat but somewhere in the middle). Maybe try giving the rest of the chicks save a chick solution? It doesn't seem like the chick would have died from Pasty Butt so quick, its more likely there was something else going on. Are you using medicated feed?

I'm very sorry for your loss

as long as none of your other chicks are acting the same way I would not worry.

My bantams are dying. I have three more sick. They get super tired, lethargic, sleep a lot and then just die. They are on medicated feed but I’m wondering if the brooder was too cool? I’m not sure. It’s not affecting any of my standards of the same age that are in with them. I keep their brooder and water super clean and dry.
