Help! I have two 5 week old chicks that are making the high pitched distressed chirping sounds and trying to escape our brooder. They're almost fully feathered now, so we've been letting them free-range out in the yard during the day and acclimatizing them to their new coop. But, we bring them inside to their brooder at night, because the coop still needs a bit of TLC before we can use it.

We've been turning off the brooder light at night from yesterday. Could they be afraid of the dark? But the escape attempts and chirping don't stop even with the lights on!! Beginning to think they think the coop outside is their new home. But even if we move them out there (in the dark and in the rain, mind you) the distress chirping still doesn't stop.

They have enough chick grit and water. I've changed the bedding to clean pine shavings too.

Any ideas?? :(

Can you take a short video, upload it to YouTube or Vimeo then post a link here?
How much longer before their coop is ready?
