My SLW hatched out 4 chicks during the night. I found one cold, dead, and in the corner of the nesting box this morning with two others under her and one still hatching. Just checked on them again and there's another one out right next to her cold and dead. The remaining two are snuggled under her, but for how long?
Should I take them away from her or see what happens to the other two? I can't stand the thought of losing the other two babies, but I really wanted her to be able to raise them. Do you think it's her booting them out or what?

What would you do?

Why doesn't seem important for now...if it were me, I'd pull all the babies before it happens again.

If it were me, I'd pull them from her. Personally I do not use my hens to raise babies. I feel like I can keep a better eye on them, keep the temp where they are more consistant and know for sure who is maling progress and who is "going backwards". This is just my opinion. I know others have great success using hens to raise babies.

I brood for 1-2 weeks in the house before moving babies to a heated barn. I have a "brooder room" and babies depending on how old, size and how they are doing go into different brooders. With how flakey some of my hens are, I couldn't imagine letting them raise the babies!!!

Good luck in what ever decision you make.
