Chick failing to thrive

Here is the scruffy chick.

I would not give a tiny chick a bath because you risk chilling it. Unless it has really really bad pasty butt and even then only the backside. Maybe it got something on its feathers? If you feel compelled to clean it up - keep it warm and use a blow dryer.

That is a Frizzle chick I believe. It is suppose to look like that. Keep helping it. They are gorgeous when grown and the feathers are suppose to twist like that. Feathered Cochin bantam maybe is what you have?

I had one. Mine was black and its feathers were dull - Mine had a prolasped vent and didn't survive.

Frizzles do have funny feathers and it will feather out really beautifully and different. Don't wash it.

Thanks so much. I bought several different kinds of chicks so it's good to know that this may have something to do with it's breed rather than an illness. I can't wait to see what this one turns out like.
