I read somewhere that chicks feather in quicker when kept cooler while chicks kept warmer are slower to grow in their feathers?

Is this true?

I’ve been looking back over progression photos of my SLW hens from last year and my GLW chicks do appear to be getting feathers quicker.

For context my SLWs were purchased at around 5 days to a week old in May last year and it never got chilly. My new GLWs were picked up around the same age last month and it’s been downright chilly at times. The chicks have all been kept in an outdoor brooder with a light because there’s nowhere to put them indoors.

I say hogwash. :D

Keeping chicks cooler in my opinion... is irrelevant.

Keep it too cool it simply uses more energy to stay warm instead of growing. Keep it cooler than that, it dies. It's like saying make a babies head cold and it will grow hair faster.

So, as far as I can tell it boils down to a couple of things... Genetics, nutrition, and maybe even coincidence. :pop

Appreciate the chance to see what other say. :thumbsup
