Chick feed- When do you feed the medicated feed?

I have a sick week old chick. Do you put DE in your young chicks water? I started giving her poly-vy-sol today and mixed a little yogurt in her food but I'd like to do everything I can. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!
thanks!!

Post about your sick chick in illness section to get help. I'm not sure what to do but the DE will not help. It would be rare for a chick that young to have anything that DE would cure. Hope the little one will be okay. Post in disease section to get the best answers.

thank you!!

I live in Oregon and we have wet winters and springs so they are more likely to get cocci. Becasue of this I am feeding medicated chick starter. The medicated starter doesn't have antibiotics, it has a thiamine inhibitor to slow down the possibility of cocci maturing and therefore the load of infection so the chick has a chance to build a natural immunity. I will give them developer/grower grower at about nine or ten weeks of age until they lay or until they are about 20 weeks of age. I have standard hens that don't start to lay until 5-7 months of age. I am planning on feeding an organic soy and corn free diet because fish meal protein is supposedly better than soy and hard its to find non GMO corn. I chose this carefully with the chicks best interest in mind for our area.

Bottom line--check the needs for your area--wet, dry, if cocci is common, etc.
