Chick fight

So I have 9 pure white silkies that are 6 weeks old. I’ve noticed several of them wanting to “fight” they puff up their chest their hackle feathers sticks out around their necks and they bounce around at each other. It doesn’t last long but my question is does this mean they are cockerels? Or do females do the same thing? I know this is probably a dumb question to the ppl who know the answer but I’m new to chickens and want to learn so no one gets hurt thanks

Chicks, both M and F will do this, so it’s not a defining indicator. I’ve never had Silkies, though, but would assume they are the same.

Me too! I don't know how to sex silkies but fighting definitely occurs between both sexes.

Yes, chest bumping and fighting happens with both sexes. It doesn't automatically mean they're cockerels.

That little snipet had me laughing out loud. I can just picture this happening. Silly birds. It reminds me of little boys, dancing around in a circle, with their ‘dukes’ up!
