I found my chick this morning, it had been stuck upside down for some time I think. I got her out and she was completely disoriented and may have broken her leg. I thought for a second that she had sustained an injury to her abdomen from a predator as she was covered in droppings. Upon closer inspection, I realized her vent was almost spasming. She doesn't seem to be able to walk around and seems dizzy and confused. Could being upside down for a long time have caused her brain damage, or is she just in shock?

It's possible she will not recover, but you might want to let her settle down for a day to see if she gets better.

Is she able to eat or drink? Have you found a break in the leg?

I had a silkie that got caught by her foot in a bush and hung upside down for hours. When I finally found her she was absolutely incoherent. She recovered, though she limped for days and is not the brightest wildebeast on the Serengeti, but that could be a coincidence, not brain damage......

Yours is probably in shock, I'd keep her warm, quiet, and give her some electrolytes or even sugar water.

I hope she recovers......

I have not found a break in the leg. I have offered her water but she is not interested. She is starting to do the same with the other leg so maybe she has not broken it... if she has, it would be in the ip. I have her in a dog kennel where she can rest in peace and quiet.

did you try using a little dropper? that usually gets them drinking even if they refuse. but if she doesn't seem thirsty i wouldn't worry a whole lot. hope she'll be okay! poor dear. i'm not sure it would cause brain damage, i think she will recover just fine. best of luck!

oh- and you might wan to fix the problem if it is still a danger to your other ladies.
