Hi all,

It's that time of year again and the 2nd grader are doing the hatching program. You may or may not remember that last year (my sons first year in the school) I was asked to come in by one of the teachers because her chicks weren't doing well, and I was dumfounded to discover that the setup the teachers are given is completely inadequate and the teachers (NOT their fault) were never trained properly...for instance they had no heat lamp (only a REGULAR light bulb) and on the weekends, the peeps are taken home WITH NO HEAT. Anyway, I emailed the science director and offered my advice and training...fell on deaf ears...

So, as you would expect, I have a peep in my possession who is not doing well because of the way things are set up...

I already put him/her in my brooder with the heat lamp, and couple with some Save-A-Chick electrolytes being dripped in with a syringe, they are stirring and peeping a loud more than before....still not standing up...but moving more...(the poor thing was COLD to the touch when I picked it up)

Anything else I could do? Just keep doing what I am doing?

If he/she perks and starts walking and moving around, I should get them one or two more peeps for company, or can I just leave it by itself???

Im checking for pasty butt too.....have probiotics if necessary....

Well he/she is definitely more vocal and active, but still cant stand up....I think it has spraddle leg. I did the band aid trick and hopefully it will work...I set up a sling too which I think I will have to go to as the leg strength just isn't there...poor thing....
