I continue to be blown away by the wealth of information available on this website. I am a newbie but this website helped me to determine that one of our 6 baby chicks has Wry Neck. Though I am cautiously optimistic, I think she'll be okay! We only had them for a day, when over a short period of time, her head and neck had completely corkscrewed entirely around. My first thought was to call a priest for an exorcism! I can laugh about it now but at the time it was horrifying, especially to our 10-year-old daughter, Becca. The "little biddy" could not walk, eat or drink and the other chicks picked on her.

If any of you experts out there have something to add, please do! Is there anything else we need to do? i.e How much longer should I give her the Poly-Vi-Sol?

This is what we have done so far: I realize that Wry Neck is caused by a vitamin deficiency, not a contagious disease. However, I did separate her from the others for her protection. I placed her in the box that they came in and added pine shavings. I emptied and flushed out an eye dropper then filled it with warmed up Gatorade (Not Diet).I was careful that it is not too hot! Wrapping her in a cloth, I had to turn her body at an odd angle so that her head was upright. She took the Gatorade well. My husband picked the Gatorade up and he chose the blue kind: She has a lovely blue tongue and beak so we may call her "Blue" I only gave her about half of the eye dropper: I didn't want to overdo it. I also soft-boiled an egg, mashed it up with a small amount of milk, making it just thin enough to feed with a medicine syringe. Only gave 1/4 tsp: again, didn't want to overdo it. Hydration and nutrition attended to, my daughter and I traveled to Wal-Mart to get Poly-Vi-Sol without Iron, which we found in the pharmacy section. Gave her about 2 drops of the Poly-Vi-Sol and more Gatorade around 8:00 am. Went to bed with a prayer. Gave her another dose at 3:00 am. By then her neck had already started to turn! She was pecking at a bit of egg and chick feed on her own. I had cut the bottoms off of paper cups for the food and used a small plastic container for Gatorade. We awoke at 6:30 am to find that the box was empty!! She had jumped out of it and was happily visiting with her friends! Her head is still a bit to one side so I plan to give her a couple more doses today. I also added 2 dropper fulls to the community water jug. She is eating and drinking well! I will add that I initially checked her for pasty butt: I really don't think that she has that but am glad to say that I can check touching a chicken's butt off of my bucket list, not that it was ever on it to begin with!

Thanks for any advice!
