Chick Grit? What Do You Think?

So if I want to give my chicks treats, do they need grit? Can I just use sand? And if I do give them grit, should they be able to access it 24/7?

Think of it this way, if you'd have to chew it- so would the chicks.

Soft things like yogurt and bananas can be given without. Fruit, veggies, seeds, insects, ect will require chewing, thus they'll need grit.

I give my chicks grit 24/7 in the form of a shallow Tupperware bowl filled with dirt scooped from my yard. They scratch thru it, dust bathe on it and, of course, eat it. Sand is wonderful grit

My chicks get a bowl of dirt for grit and dust bathing from day 1.
