was wonderin when i should start giving my week old BR pullets chick grit and the brooder is attracting flies in the garage and there eating those too is that somthing there gonna need grit to help digestion with:rolleyes:

I bought started grit and had it free choice for my chicks from the first week on. They didn't eat much of it, but as I've said before in other post, why not, its not expensive. Some people feel that if they have access to dirt they shouldn't need grit, but sound like yours are still in the brooder.

Mine are anywhere from 7 weeks to 3 weeks... Should they all be on grit at this point, I haven't had anyone on grit and they have no access to dirt at this point.

Grit? The girls are now 6 weeks old and have not had "grit." They spent the first 4 weeks in a brooder box in the garage (going out in the portable playyard on nice days). Since graduating to the "big girl" house, their run is attached and peck at the dirt all day. Do they still need grit?
