I got four English Orpington chicks today and one of them seems to have a particular problem. When it stands up it pushes its left leg completely straight and off to the side without putting any weight on it. It is also limping when it walks. The leg quivers when it leans over to take a drink kind of like when people have muscle weakness after a long workout. I will post a few pic but it's kind of hard to see. Does anyone have an idea what is going on? Help!
The video is unavailable...but it sounds like spraddle leg. I had one with a similar problem that eventually passed from something else unrelated to the leg. The article below will give you some tips.
It looks kinda like that. I will try to treat it for that and hope it gets better. Is it sad that it's already my favorite out of the group? I put my hand into the brooder and it hobbles over and sits on me.
It loves to cuddle under my hair and eats constantly.
Even if I can't get it fixed I'm not going to cull it unless the leg causes it pain or keeps it from eating.
