Chick has a protruding vent and pasty butt? Help! *PICS*

Oatmeal, grind it up into something like a powder form, and offer that to your chick, and make sure you keep it warm with water available, give it a few hours to a few days , see how all your chicks will love to eat that oatmeal..! its very good for them..!! good luck, your chick should be better in no time .:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy:thumbsup:clap:highfive:

check out this site ,The Happy Chicken Coop. for more pasty butt info, except i would do the last wet wipe & drying ,after using liquid colloidal silver on the vent area to help kill germs & any type of bacteria & kill viruses, off in the area &also be feeding the ground up people type oatmeal that will help the chick, but before any problem arise in your chicks, on the very first day feed them this green gro gel for the first meal and for the first few hours, that should keep any pasty buy away in the first place, here is the gro gel info look on e bay and others places on line must have Gro Gel Plus B (With Bacteria) For Baby Chicks. I found it here & its a good price for Gro Gel, GroGel Plus B (100 doses) - My Pet Chicken

Sorry to keep updating, but it's popped out even more now

I've tried three times to push it back in with prep H and it's just not working. Although, now it's popped out "evenly" so he's no longer pooing on himself. Should I just leave it out? He seems to be okay with it and the other two chicks aren't bothering with it, but oh my gosh I just can't even look at him. It's literally sticking out 1/2" or so. And it moves.

Any ideas what it might be/how to fix it?
I know you posted this forever ago but jsut in case you still check this, did you prolapsed vent gal end up ok? I have some 2 day olds and one got pasty butt. I very gently cleaned it off but I can see she must’ve been straining because it’s popped out a bit and like you wrote, it moves

Hi can you update did your lil guy survive? Mine has the same thing. I’m reading posts saying he’s going to die and I’m just sick. He’s one week old and otherwise seems fine and eating and pooping normally. He had a little pasty butt that probably caused it.

I would keep applying something like cortisone cream to the prolapse. Watch for more pasty butt or constipation. Chilled coconut oil can be cut into tiny pieces to feed and that may lubricate the vent. If you need more help, starting a new thread would be helpful.

Hi everyone! I got three chicks in the mail on wednesday, all a few weeks old. The youngest looking one has what I can only describe as a protruding vent? He's eating and drinking fine, and is very active, but his poo is runny and REALLY light colored and well, his bum looks like this

I don't know what to do. We tried treating it as a prolapsed vent already, we put some Prep H on it and pushed it in, but it just popped back out. When he "goes" it gets stuck in the feathers by his butt and I've had to clean him 2-3 times a day to keep him from getting pasty butt. We did trim the feathers off his bum tonight, and as gross as it is, at least I have to clean him off less. Does anyone have any clue what's wrong with the little guy? Or what I can do to help him?

He is eating well, but he's a lot smaller than the other two chicks I got with him. I can't cull him, I simply can't unless he is in complete pain and going to die anyway. He's running around, and acting fine, just has this gross looking vent. Thank you so much for the help!
Wow. 15 yrs later and I have one just like this. It’s little bum pokes outward a little bit but isn’t red or anything like that. Cleaned up its butt and otherwise seems to be fine. Curious how your baby did as it grew up. Hoping I have nothing to worry about.
