Okay I have a baby chick that hatched Mother’s Day and I thought it was just like the cord still attached. But it has yet fall off and the chick had poop all over it’s back end bc it must land in what is attached. I cleaned the chicks area off but now I don’t know what it is... posted three photos one is from after hatched, two was this am before I cleaned it and three is after it was cleaned. Any ideas? When I was cleaning it seemed attached to the chicken so I didn’t mess with it!

It has pasty butt really bad. Whatever it is you need to get it all off. If poop keeps sticking make sure you wash off its butt often. If the poop covers the vent it can become fatal.

I did clean it but this is like attached I tried to wipe it and it’s like in the skin attached...so I left it the vent is all cleaned off. So that is still poop? It was there when it hatched do they poop as they hatch and it got stuck?

You've got to keep running under warm water (test on your wrist) and very gently rub it with your finger. That poop is gonna be hard and dry, it will take some time to soften it up to come off of there. I had one with pasty butt not even close to severe as this and it took me a good five minutes to get it off. I imagine you'll be working at this for a good bit. You could even fill a bowl with warm water.

I think it's dried yolk, it's coming out of the navel. Did it hatch with an unabsorbed yolk sac? I think I would leave it on there honestly, you don't want it to get infected or anything. It should fall off in time. How old is the chick? Poop will probably continue to get stuck on it for a while, just make sure you clean its rear at least 4 times a day.

I am not sure I wasn’t around when it hatched as my hen sat on them she hatched them. I noticed it when the chick was still a little wet so I must of checked on her shortly after it hatched. I’ve been cleaning the bottom but at night it gets bad. I will continue washing away the poop. And see what happens. It’s eating, drinking and following mama hen around. Hatched late Mother’s Day.

Ok. Just keep doing what you're doing then. I think the thing will fall off soon. Just keep an eye on her and make sure no one starts pecking it. Good luck!

Okay if she starts getting pecked at should I move her? Feel bad bc when I take her mama hen isn’t happy!

If she starts getting pecked you probably will have to take her and another chick amd brood them yourself. Once one bird starts pecking and draws blood, they all peck, and in a matter of seconds the bird is dead. I've seen it happen. It happens fast.

Okay I have checked on them a lot today and no blood so I’ll keep watching
