Hi all,
We had a broody girl sitting on numerous eggs. I didn’t count how many because I didn’t want to disturb her but I think she was stealing the other girl’s eggs at first too.
We moved her into her own small cook with her eggs about a week ago as she was in a basket and I didn’t want the other hens or cocks to hurt the littles.
Last night I noticed one egg had hatched. Tonight I have found that she has moved to the complete other side of the coop and left all her eggs and she has three chicks under her. I stayed for hours and watched her and there was no sign of her going back to them. They were also really cold (the eggs) so I carefully put them all under her. She accepted 12 but left 7 which she left out and pecked. One of those she pecked her chicks also started to peck and I could hear a little chick chirping inside. I left if for a while but then they pulled loads of it open and they were really going for it so I rescued it. I carefully removed the rest of the shell and put new chick under the hen but she started pecking at it again really viciously and her chicks did so I took it out and put it in my top to keep warm and brought it home. It is still alive but looks very weak and it may have been a couple of days early. Anyway, I have put it in my incubator with the 6 other eggs she chucked out. Does anyone have any ideas how I can help it? Thanks

They'll all have to be brooded separately except her 3. She sounds like a bad mom. Is this her first hatch? I wouldn't let her hatch anymore. Pics of the poor damaged one will help.
