Chick hatched with exposed brain GRAPHIC

I had a chick hatch this morning with an exposed brain. I have no idea how it even made it through the hatching process like this. I was terrible to see it still alive like this. Unfortunately I knew there was no way the little guy would make it, so we had to cull him. I have never had this happen before. What a shock!

This happened to us. The egg had cracked that the chick was in last week... was wondering if that is why it happened.
 
It happens in something like 1/1500 hatches, it's like ancelphathy in human babies, and the chicks (and children) born this way have a whole list of defects, the open skull is just the most horrifing. Nothing you can do. Usually these eggs don't make it to hatching.

Not true at all!! I’m silkie chicks and other vaulted skull birds it happens occasionally. And people have them survive and THRIVE !! And are perfectly normal!!
