so as you know im new to this and this morning the egg had a crack and a small piece missing, about 6 hours later the chick was about 1/3- 1/2 out so i helped it! should i have done this? the chick seems healthy churping etc and the mother hen pushed it below herself, it obviously cant stand yet. is this all normal, i have removed the egg shell there was some blood etc around is this all ok? the mother hen wont hurt it and the chick will dry naturally?

thanks.

Hi, it will be ok as long as its with mom, she will take care of it and you can just keep an eye out to make sure but normally mom will do every thing. The chick will dry under mom too.

ok its just when i placed the chick beside her she looked at it in confusion (looked quite funny) but then she pushed it under herself, she wont suffercate it will she? and what will it do for food as it didn't absorb very much of the membrain etc.

Next time let it finish hatching on its own. Sometimes they will stop and rest while they finish absorbing the yolk and the blood in the membrane. They need the exercise of hatching to strengthen the muscles they need to stand when they are out. I have a very hard time not helping. But it is best for the chicks to let nature do what it needs to.
